About the Project
Caring for the environment is caring for our community.
Curimbaba Group joins the Poços de Caldas City Hall to revitalize the Bortolan Dam.
Based in Poços de Caldas-MG, the Curimbaba Group maintains a firm commitment to actively contribute to the sustainable development of the local community. Therefore, we did not hesitate to be part of the emergency project to remove water hyacinths from the Bortolan Dam, coordinated by the Department of the Environment, under the command of Marcus Vinícius Ferreira de Moraes, Secretary of the Environment of Poços de Caldas.
The project was started in February 2024, opened by Ordinance 4710-2024, and has the support of DMAE, DME, Guarda Verde, Department of Works, Public Services, Curimbaba Group and the Poços de Caldas community.
The first stage, essential for the revitalization of the dam, was completed in two months of work. During this time, more than 200 trucks were provided and 900 tons of water hyacinths were removed, which covered almost 100% of the water surface. An action that generated savings of more than R$ 500 thousand for the municipality.
The removed water hyacinths were destined for the production of fertilizers and composting, ensuring correct and sustainable disposal. At controlled levels, these plants help to remove organic pollutants and prevent the proliferation of cyanobacteria. However, in excess, they compromise water oxygenation, increase sludge and make nautical activities unfeasible.
Now, we are moving on to the next stages! The project will carry out inspections of the developments around the dam to identify the cause of excessive proliferation, in addition to cleaning the Córrego das Amoras and educational actions aimed at preventing new environmental imbalances.
In this way, working together, we protect our natural resources and take care of our community.Records
